Plaza Athenee What’s it Like?The hotel’s entrance is grand and imposing with an impressive double staircase that leads to the mezzanine floor. The Rain Tree Restaurant and Glazz Bar are extensions of the reception area making it seem larger than it is. Where is it?The hotel is only thirty-minutes from Bangkok’s international airport and at the corner of Wireless and Ploenchit roads and convenient to Bangkok’s embassy-land. The hotel straddles two of Bangkok’s most important business districts of Sukhumvit and Silom/Sathorn roads. Road and rail communications are good it takes only a few minutes by Skytrain or taxi to the soon-to-be-opened city-Suvarnabhumi Airport rail link How Many Rooms?The Plaza Athenee has 378 rooms that include: 260 Deluxe, 59 club, three Junior suites, six Royal Club suites and three marvellously luxurious special suites. The Royal Pimai, the Ruern Thai and the massive and uber-luxurious Ratanakasin Suite clocks in at a comfortable 350 sq meters. The rooms are large with the smallest being the Deluxe rooms at 38 sq meters. Each room has views of the surrounding area and many of the lush gardens of both the British and American embassies. Room FacilitiesFrom an iron and ironing board to the use of an umbrella the rooms are well appointed with a comfortable sofa, large flat screen TV with copious international TV and radio channels, free Wi-Fi Internet in each room, IDD telephone, well stocked mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary bottles of water, large writing desk. The rooms offer a comfortable and quiet space to work. Restaurants and BarsThere are five restaurants and two bars. The Rain Tree Café – is an all day eatery opens for breakfast at 05.30 and closes at 22.30 hours. Sunday brunches and the Champagne lunch are especially good. The Glaz Bar – great for chilling, floor to ceiling windows allows for ample people watching. Smooth Curry – serves Royal Thai cuisine. Silk Road – is a Cantonese restaurant that serves not just Cantonese food but freshly prepared dim sum too. Utage – is the hotel’s Japanese eatery, enjoy the sushi in traditional Japanese surroundings. Reflexions – French cuisine par excellence a must for the businessman wishing to impress. The large and clubby executive lounge is open 24-hours and has selection of snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available at most times. The View offers poolside snacks and drinks. Business FacilitiesA fully equipped and staffed business centre is available as are a completely refurbished and modernised conference and function rooms. The 900 sq meters Grand Hall can accommodate a maximum of 900 delegates in theatre style. Additional breakout and smaller rooms are copious surrounding a large pre-conference and reception space. Star 29 will certainly ‘wow’ the delegates with its futuristic and funky styling. LeisureAn outdoor swimming pool, spa, a fitness and health suite fully outfitted with the latest equipment and staffed with qualified personal trainers. PriceFrom 8,800 baht for a deluxe room, Royal Club rooms from 10,800 baht to the exquisite Ratanakasin Suite at 100,000 baht per night. Children under 12 staying with parents and no roll away bed are free. VerdictThis is a perfect hotel in a central location with good connections to all parts of the city. The staff are courteous and helpful, check in is easy and quick; in short, a superb hotel for both business trips and leisure breaks.
