Over the last decade, Detroit has made great strides to increase and attract businesses to the downtown area. Currently several corporations have headquarters or main offices in the Motor City including General Motors, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Compuware and Ford Motor Company. Quicken Loans is also in the process of making downtown Detroit their home. These businesses, along with hundreds of conferences, seminars and workshops draw business travelers to the downtown area.
Downtown Detroit provides several options for overnight accommodations. Some of the more popular hotels include the:
- Detroit Marriott at the General Motors Renaissance Center - The Marriott at the GM Renaissance Center is housed in the tallest building in Detroit. This 3 diamond hotel has73 floors with a revolving restaurant on one of the top floors. Rooms come standard with luxurious bedding, cable television, iron/ironing board, hairdryers and a safe. Rooms with a view of the Detroit river as well as deluxe (concierge level) rooms with added amenities are also available. High speed Internet access, unlimited local calls and unlimited long distance services can be purchased for a daily fee. The Renaissance Center is home to GM's World Headquarters and several other businesses, restaurants and retail shops. The hotel is close to the Coleman Young Municipal Center, Cobo Hall and Joe Louis Arena. It also provides easy access to the People Mover, downtown Detroit's Public Transportation System. Room rates range from $150-$250+ per night.
- Hotel St. Regis - This historic hotel has undergone major renovations. Rooms come standard with a therapeutic mattress (great for those long business trips), in-room coffee service and high speed Internet access. Deluxe rooms are available with added amenities such as complimentary breakfast, cocktail hour and plush robes/slippers. Additionally, the hotel offers a library/business center, on-site dining and meeting facilities. The Hotel St. Regis is close to Henry Ford Hospital, state of Michigan government offices and Fisher Theater. Rooms average around $170/night.
- Hilton Garden Inn - This mid-priced hotel is within walking distance of Compuware, General Motors, Comerica Park and Ford Field. Hotel amenities include high speed Internet access, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, on-site laundry facility, indoor swimming/fitness and a 24-hour business center.
- Omni Detroit Hotel River Place - This European boutique-style facility is one of only a few 4-diamond hotels in downtown Detroit. Rooms come standard with plush robes, coffee makers, iron/ironing board, high speed Internet access, alarm clock with mp3 attachment, executive work desks and a complimentary newspaper. Several rooms offer great views of the Detroit River. Additionally, the hotel offers a health club, croquet court, dry cleaning/laundry service, business services and complimentary shuttle throughout the downtown area. Room rates range from $150-$200+ per night.
